Steve Ashiem - JUST KICKING BACK BRO, WAITING FOR THE RELEASE TO START HITTING PEOPLES EARS AND SEE WHAT COMES BACK AT US. HOPEFULLY PEOPLE DIG IT.
DB - Whats on the agenda for a live performance may be to kick off, like ouldtimes?
SA - WELL, WE ALWAYS LIKE TO GIVE THE KIDS ABUNCH OF OLD TUNES, FOR THOSE WHO'VE NEVER HAD A CHANCE TO SEE US BEFORE, AND ALSO THE OLD FANS COME TO HEAR THE OLD STUFF. THERE'LL BE PLENTY OF STUFF FROM "STENCH...." AND "TILL DEATH....". AS USUAL, GLEN WILL PROBABLY KICK SOMEONE'S TEETH OUT OF THEIR MOUTH.... A GOOD TIME HAD BY ALL!
DB - Speaking of old times, Years ago the Tampa death metal scene was much bigger than it is today. Looking back on "death row" it seems that the comradery was more tight nit. With all of the battle of the bands. Do you see it declining?
SA - I REMEBER THE DECLINE, BUT IT DECLINED EVERYWHERE. IT WAS THE "GRUNGE" FAD OF THE TIME. SUCKED THE AIR OUT OF THE METAL SCENE. BUT GRUNGE FADED AND METAL REMAINED, AND NO MATTER WHAT FAD COMES ALONG AND GAINS POPULARITY FOR A FEW YEARS, ONCE THE FAD DIES, METAL REERS IT'S UGLY HEAD AGAIN. AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN, IT ALWAYS WILL. METAL WILL NEVER DIE.
DB - Do you feel there is a younger generation that is keeping the scene alive?
SA - THE METAL SCENE IS DEFINTLY MULTI-GENERATIONAL. ONCE YOU'RE A METALHEAD, IT'S NOT LIKE A FAZE YOU GO THROUGH AND THEN GROW OUT OF, YOU'RE METAL FOR LIFE. SO ALL THE OLD FANS ARE STILL OUT THERE, AND THE NEW FANS ARE BORN EVERY DAY, MAN!
DB - I heard through the grapvine that were thinking about some side projects, any truth to that?
SA - I'VE DONE A PROJECT OR TWO. I'VE WORKED ON SOME SOLO STUFF CALLED "PROG-DETH", INSTRUMENTAL DEATHMETAL. IT'S COOL AND FUN BUT NOTHING WILL PROBABLY COME OF IT. THIS OTHER PROJECT CALLED "ORDER OF ENNEAD" IS PROBABLY GOING TO HAVE AN EARACHE RECORDS RELEASE BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR. I HOPE TO TOUR FOR IT ALSO, AS WELL AS FOR DEICIDE.
DB - You I don't know if I ever asked you who your influences were/ and are there anybands that your into at the moment?
SA - THE OLD SCHOOL THRASH LIKE SLAYER, DARK ANGEL, EXODUS. EVEN OLDER STUFF LIKE OLD IRON MAIDEN. NEW STUFF OUT THERE TODAY IS JUST CRAZY, ALOT OF GOOD STUFF OUT THERE. IT KEEPS PUSHING ME TO STAY ON TOP OF MY GAME. IT'S A GOOD THING.
DB - I know we spoke about yours and mine military ties in our families. I actually had a friend that is the PSYOPS(physcological operations command) that saw documents with the bands name song title and lyrics. To be approved by the Commanding Officer! How does it make your feel that your band name has sbeen approved and seen by officials in the militay?
SA - IT IS PRETTY WILD TO THINK THAT THEY'RE BLASTING DEICIDE OUT ON THE BATTLE FIELD AND IN PRISON CAPMS AND SUCH. BUT TO THINK THAT WE'RE ACTUALLY GETTING PUSHED THROUGH THE CHANNELS FOR THE PSY-OPS CORP IS PRETTY WILD. IT'S LIKE I'M IN THE PSY-OPS CORP. AT LEAST I GOT TO DO MY DUTY SOMEHOW!
DB - Were do you see that band in the lets say the next five years, with all of the line up changes
SA - IT'S REALLT TOUGH TO SAY. LOOKING BACK, I REALIZE I'VE NEVER LOOKED THAT FAR AHEAD BECAUSE I NEVER TOUGHT IT WOULD LAST THIS LONG. I'VE ALWAYS JUST BEEN TAKING ONE TOUR AND ONE ALBUM AT A TIME, AND HOPE FOR THE BEST. BUT 5 YEARS FROM NOW I DEFINTLY STILL SEE MYSELF PLAYING SOMEWHERE.
