Sri Lanka Metal has not received any gifts yet
Greetings!This page was originally supposed to be about the metal industry in Sri Lanka-an island of sandy beaches, rain forests, a rich oriental culture and 20+ years of civil war. Well,it still is really!But given that Mithila-the admin-is now in Minnesota and believes that revealing his experiences as a metalhead who has had a very different background as far as music is concerned is (presumably) much more unique and entertaining,he will be writing a segment called "A Metalhead's Diary".But this page will still have blogposts and hopefully videos,pictures etc.. about Sri Lankan metal too since Arya Hiwatari a very talented writer and a die-hard metalhead will be contributing to this page.
~~~~~A Word from Sri Lanka~~~~~
We, Sri Lankans believe that we have a most dedicated metal underground and a passionate following but not the best "infrastructure" for metal. Apart from the obscure “Indie” label or two, there are no major record labels to earn the International recognition most of the Sri Lankan Heavy Metal bands deserve. To this day Sri Lanka doesn’t have any publication solely dedicated to Rock music and most of the very few “metal segments” in popular print media are run by people who are not at all informed about Heavy Music. Also there are only a very few online communities dedicated to local music. The main idea behind this page is not only to contribute in some way, to Sri Lanka’s metal community but also to act as a source for the International Metal Community to be informed about Lankan Metal and get their hands on some good music. Hopefully this will also act as a platform for intellectual, artistic conference.~~~~~What we write about~~~~~
~~~~~The Sri Lankan music industry:for dummies~~~~~
The term “The Underground” has often separated metal heads themselves and its definition still remains undefined. We genuinely believe that the Sri Lankan metal industry was born in a true underground. The Sri Lanka’s artistic sphere has always maintained a very rigid attitude towards unconventional forms of art as opposed to those so-called “pure” forms-as the experts say. Improvisatory and unconventional art has always been greeted with hostility and given that there was an era where all “youth” associated artistic acts were criticized and dissed simply for being “youth attempts”, Sri Lankan’s younger generation have always craved for artistic diversity. This has now resulted in a very pathetic, directionless and musically ignorant “Hip Hop Culture”. This very different “Hip Hop Culture”-run by businesses mined individuals with no artistic sense-is sucking in massive portions of the Sri Lankan youth who crave for diversity. This is the sort of musical background where Sri Lankan metal was born in; this is the sort of background the Sri Lankan metal is still within. That being said, it is equally important to point out-Despite all this Sri Lanka has produced very talented rock musicians like Chitral ‘Chity’ Somapala (Firewind, Faro, Red Circuit, Moonlight Agony, Civilization One), and some equally talented non-rock musicians. The Sri Lankan metal music arena has been growing slowly with the support of organizations like The Rock Company-an organization dedicated to undiscovered local talent. What started as a very small industry with bands like “Rattlesnake” and “Sage Merlyn” has grown into a very loyal and die-hard underground. And some of these technically tight bands have been able to break the stereotypical barriers and attitudes born by local music enthusiasts. Now ain’t that bloody “UNDERGROUND”?
Though this page is dedicated to Sri Lankan Metal, if we find something too “orgasmic” to miss from this part of the world you will find it here on NONELOUDER and no-where else.
Keep it metal!!!
