damn people
I can't stand when some of my friends say how do you listen to that whenever I'm listening to mudvayne or metallica, and then when they say it's just a bunch of screaming, and it scrambles my head. It makes me sick, they don't know how to really listen pick up the rythm or really listen to the lyrics and find the deeper meaning, I don't know where I get it from cuz my family doesn't like it either except for my one or two of my brothers. I don't get how someone can not like metal or at least rock.

I hate to be a wet blanket here- but a lot of music that is terrible has many many fans. Sometimes it depends on timing and promotion. You really cannot judge the value of a band by how many albums it sells. Because it might just be a fad. A more important point is longevity. Prove how long a band has been around and know some of the history and that really shuts people up in an argument.

Well, it is easy to see why some people do not like Metal or Rock music. Some people just do not like the sound of distorted guitars. Personally I do not like Mudvayne because of the guitar tones they gravitate too and the vocalists inflection. I prefer bands like Opeth or Mastodon that scream AND sing. Giving more texture to the whole of the composition.
Metallica does this as well of course, I cannot understand why someone would think THAT is just screaming. They are great songwriters.

i think it's deeper then distorted guitars most people don't understand metal and hate to say it well i don't are STUPID when it comes to metal most people guess that marilyn manson wants to hook his fans on drugs which is stupid if they did that how are they gonna afford his cd's shirts, and concert tickets just to name a few.-ken

Allison, sadly this is just how the world works, or just the US it seems. First off, many of the population have a certain image in their mind that portrays metal as a genre of music that is full of screaming, unidentifiable lyrics, screaming, death, satanism, and weird kids dressed in all black or dirty band t shirts. I myself work in midtown Manhattan, and boy these people are conservative. The best way I like to introduce metal to the normal plebs is Black Sabbath. The lyrics are clear and beautiful, there are evenmore beautiful guitar rifss in every song. It's a good way to slowy introduce/teach an individual to truly listen to music instead of poppy over produced synthy crap. And as for family or childhood inflluences, I personally grew up on 50s pop music; poodle skirts, johnny angel, and drive in movie stuff.
Don't let you're friends get to you, just try to show them what you hear. And if they still bother you, fuck it, just get some metal friends.

the thing that pisses me off is wen they say its hurting there head and that it just sounds like a bunch of static! it makes me sick wen u think that,some of the mainstream bollocks thats out these days and the fact that most of there vids are underage prossies shakin there arses for £5 and a guy rappin about the 'hard times' hes never had!
The other thing i hate is i still get called grunger! HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLO have i just stepped into a time travelling machine!lol

im thought of as an emo cuz i love dimmu borgir, skeletonwitch, cannibal corpse, slayer and even METALLICA the biggest sellouts of metal. why do people prefer fake rock, pop, and hip hop to metal? cuz those genres are the "in thing" unlike metal. metals always been underground and will stay that way, and nonmetal fans will think of it as screamo or senseless noise. it honestly sickens me how people would rather hear about relationships or the ghetto when they could be listening to music about death, religon, mythology, power, emotions, paganism, history, sometimes even girls and partys, insanity, etc.
