I agree with you. But, I will admit it is harder for someone starting out with a name that could be considered "controversial" or whatever. But, you have to stick with who you are and what you are about. You will get respected a lot more in the long run. Who wants to be someone their not? Sadly a lot of people do but fuck all that! In the music business you have to be mean in a proffessional way. Nice people get taken advantage of and usually don't last long. Stick up for what you believe in. Death Before Dishonor!

Where I totally agree with you, a lot of times you see name changes because bands get hit with that ultimatum, do you want to be able to show your music to the world on my label or not? So you change your name ie. burn the priest to lamb of god. Just trying to make the point that sometimes it isn't about giving in, but taking advantage of a career opportunity. If you have a career in something else, then whatever, but if you have a controversial name and a label says to change it or you aren't getting signed.. you might want to think about what you are missing out on because of a name.
Again, I'm all for staying true to yourself, but your title is not who you are, just something for people to remember.

Yes it is true that you do need to Compromise some times ,,,But when you have some thing already going on and people like it ,,You would be nuts to make a change ,,,,

Look at the greatest Rock group of all time ,,,KISS ,,,they were made an offer and said ,,,"Fuck you its our way or nothing " ,,,,,,,the Record labels Backed down and KISS got what they wanted ,,,,,,

Any way the world needs Villans just as much as they need Heroes.

There are less Villians then heroes ,,,

If the choices was up to me I would still pick the Villain ,,,Because the Villain has more fun .

Cheers to that brother, I'm just saying the record industry has changed and the market is flooded with marketable music. If those of us who don't play the most sellable styles are asked to make a small compromise, I think its something worth considering instead of just saying no immediately.
